At my school in Germany there are projects to prevent that students start smoking. One good example is a project called...
...Be Smart, Don´t Start,...
...which we know want to present you.
The participation in the project should encourage students not start smoking. Therefore it addresses especially to the classes, in which nobody smokes so far or just a few students.
It is organised by different health organisations and supported by the Department of Health. This school year, 2010/11, it takes place for the 14th time.
The aims:
- bring the topic "Not Smoking" into schools and make it more attractive for students
- delay or prevent of smoking among not-smoking students
- help students who have already started smoking experimentally that they do not smoke regularly
The Rules:
- the students themselves decide to participate in the project or do not do it
- In an anonymous or open vote at least 90% have to vote for a participation
- After the application by a teacher the class gets send the required documents to arrange the competition
- All students sign a contract in which they obligate themselves to do not smoke during the months the project takes place
- At the end of each week the students need to confirm that they have not smoked
- If more than 10% of the class´ students smoke, the class is eliminated
- At each months´ end the class need to send a card to the competition management to confirm that the class is still in. Another possibility is to confirm it online.
