Football at the Collegium Josephinum Bonn
At our school, sports are quite important and especially football is very popular. We do not only play football in our sport lessons, but we also have school team that participates every year on the “Stadtmeisterschaften”! And in the last years, we have always been quite successful because last year we won the championship as like as two years ago! We just could not win the matches against the other cities so that we just played in Bonn!
In our two or three sport lessons a week we often play football as well although some people have also played for example basketball for the last months. Nevertheless, football is the most popular kind of sport at the CoJoBo but naturally, it depends on the teacher: there are some teachers that play more football and some teachers that prefer other sports as hockey and table-tennis, jogging around our football field or just fitness!
Two times a year, we also have tournaments in our school. The grades 5,6 and 7 and 8,9 and 10 play against each other and the winners get a cup which they exhibit in their classroom. It always makes much fun except that you lose – then it is naturally possible that there are some tears in the years 5, 6 and 7!
Art
- all students have art as a subject since the 5th grade
- during the 8th and 9th grade the students haven’t art as a subject
- in the “Oberstufe” the students can choose art again as a subject
- the CoJoBo also offers art as a working group:
- it is for students of the 10th – 13th grade
- a teacher leads it
- it is always offered for one hour a week
The Collegium Josephinum has some very good artists and their best pictures and works are shown in some parts of the school:
The back of the gymnasium is painted with lots of pictures that have all something to do with the CoJoBo
Some walls in the stairs are also painted by students and teachers
The nicest works are shown in the aula of the school
Near the artrooms you can find some pictures and also lots of works in showcases
Music
Choir at the CoJoBo
- The big choir has about 50 members, which is much less than some years ago
- Mr Lueckge has been the choirmaster for many years
- The members like the choir although they have to spend up to 3 hours with it in a week; it is always a new challenge and a new programme
- The next project is a kind of revue on lovesongs from all over the world
- In 2005, when the school celebrated the 125th anniversary, there was a revue in cooperation with the BigBand, the String Orchestra and our twin school in Cologne
- But the program is varied: the pupils also sing classical music from Mozart and other famous componists
- In the 5th class pupils can go to a smaller choir to prove if they like it so that they can later come to the big choir, which is like an extra curricular activity
- Nearly every year, the choir makes a tour for a weekend not just for practising but also for spending some time together with playing football, watching movies or just with talking
- Our choir is quite popular in Germany because there are only boys singing and we have already had concerts in Berlin, Cologne (Germany) and even in Budapest (Hungary)
- The singers perform in churches, halls and in the school; most of the concerts have many visitors so the singers always are motivated to sing as good as possible
- The money earned with the concerts is given to the foundation of our school, to boarding schools in Sumba or is spent for new musicinstruments
The BigBand at the CoJoBo
- The BigBand has been lead by Mr Gawellek since 2008
- They play especially Jazz-music but also popsongs (sometimes supported by solists of the choir)
- The most important instruments of the band are: trumpets, trombones, saxophones and drums
- Our school also offers a String Orchestra managed by Mr Altmann mainly playing music of Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi etc.
