German is the native language in Germany. You have to study it from the 1st to the 13th school year. At the beginning you learn reading and writing. Later you learn about the grammar of the language, for example punctuation. Furthermore you read books and poems from different centuries and analyse them.
In Germany English is normally the first foreign language. You have to learn it from the 1st to 13th year. In the first four years you hear and sing English songs and watch short films. In the next five years you learn vocabulary, the grammar of the language and read, write and listen to texts. In the last years you study the same as in the native language(German), you read books and analyse them. In the whole time you learn something about the UK and the USA.
At our school there are Catholic and Protestant lessons of religion. At our school you have to take it the whole time while at other schools in Germany you are allowed to vote it out. They consist of learning from the bible, its structure and its stories, about saints, and their lives, about the history of the church, about different types of churches and church service, about ethics and other religions. Additionally, we have a holy mass every second week.
Science does not exist as subject in Germany. It´s divided in four different subjects: Biology, Physics, Chemistry and computer science.
You can have biology between 4.5 and 7.5 years. First you learn about animals, there systematics and about the human. Then you learn about plants in a similar way. After this the topics are ecology and genetics.
You can have physics between 4 and 7 years. Physics consists of learning about mechanics, electrical power, atomic physics, force, pressure, temperature, acoustics and optics. You have experiments in each topic and analyse why and how something happens and make rules for it.
You can have it between 3 and 6 years. Chemistry consists of learning about the structure of materials and what happens when they are mixed. You do experiments and write down how and why the molecules and the structure change. It´s divided into inorganic and organic chemistry.
You can have it between 0 and 3 years. It consists of learning about abstraction, modelling and basic questions, which stand in context with the structure, processing, transfer and report of information.
You can have art between 4 and 7 years. You learn about the history of art and about the colours and study other theoretical topics. Furthermore you paint pictures with water colours, crayons or only with a pencil. In the end you build something or work with photos.
You have history between 6 and 8 years. You study the history from the beginning of the human race until today. You start with the Stone Age, speak about early, high developed cultures in Egypt for example and about the old Greek. Then the Romans are a big topic. After this you learn about the situation during the Middle Ages and the earlier modern times in Germany and a bit about the rest of the world, especially about the independence of the USA and the French Revolution. Then you study the First World War and this time in Germany and the takeover of Hitler and the situation in this time and the Second World War. In the end you learn about the situation between the war and the reunification of Germany.
In Germany you have P.E. from the first to the 13th school year. You normally have two lessons a week sometimes one more. Additionally, you go swimming for one year. In the other P.E. lessons you can decide whether you want to go into the gym or do sports outdoors. Normally the P.E lessons consists of gymnastics, athletics, playing types of ball games, especially football, running and conditioning training.
